Warp Drive takes the kart racer into interesting new territory. The basics are there; you need to make your way around a circuit filled with speed boosts, pickups and obstacles faster than your opponents. Where this game separates itself is with the warp mechanic. When you pick up crystals on the track, you can spend these to get a speed boost, ram into an opponent or warp. The latter allows you to target a player up in front and warp past them, or warp into different parts of the track – including the ceiling and through walls – to find shortcuts. This is a super cool idea and lots of fun, also making the action seem very fast and frantic. Especially in multiplayer. The futuristic visuals, quadcopter like vehicles also dazzle you with spectacular visuals, even if the track landscapes aren’t that varied. The only weird thing is the lack of game modes, sloppy tournament progression and inability to choose which tracks to play.
