Celeste Dixon has broken a whopping three records! The 37-year-old from Ascot Park in South Australia is a fitness enthusiast who has appeared on six seasons of Australian Ninja Warrior.
For her, it’s all about making exercise fun, “so it doesn’t appear like actual training”.
Her training involves a little bit of everything; gymnastics, climbing, Ninja Warrior, CrossFit, running, swimming and anything else that requires physical activity.
“I always get asked why I train so much,” she says. “It keeps me sane and also I get total enjoyment out of it.”
Her wish is for more people to get into fitness, as she believes “exercise stimulates the mind and takes away any stress”. People would benefit from focusing on this aspect, she says, rather than thinking about what they look like. Her advice is to find an activity that doesn’t feel like a chore.
For each record attempt she practiced for several weeks, racing against the clock and trying to get better and better, shaving milliseconds off each time.
Of her three records, she said the most difficult was the Fastest 10 m walking on hands while holding a 10 kg medicine ball between the legs (female).
She would love to break her own records again one day to see if she can improve even more – and hopes others will be inspired to try them too – and may also attempt more aerial ones.
Celeste did competitive elite gymnastics for almost 11 years until she was 16, but retired after a big fall on the bars.
She was inspired to try aerial silks after seeing one her of her gymnastics coaches performing for Cirque Du Soleil. She asked him to teach her, and was told to come back when she was “big and strong” – so she did, 10 years later, after retiring from gymnastics.
She is both a coach and a student of the aerial arts, and loves the freedom of dropping through the air while spinning, with the safety of a piece of fabric.
When she told her mum about her records, she doesn’t think she believed her until she received the certificates – and then she was “astounded”!
Working three jobs as a barista and cafe manager, a part time aerial coach and a part time personal trainer, Celeste doesn’t have much free time – but she loves it with her dog and has even got him into some agility training so he can be her “ninja dog sidekick”.
She can’t quite believe she is featured in the Guinness World Records 2023 book and describes it as an “honour”.
