When beauty meets the beast!
When most of us think of off-roaders, we imagine boxy, tank-like machines without curves. Callum however, goes the opposite with their Skye model, a slick looking off-roader that is unlike anything on or off the road today!
Callum’s Design Director, Ian Callum, has been professionally designing cars since the ‘70s. His resume includes work at Ford and Jaguar, and also TWR Design, where he influenced iconic models such as the Aston Martin DB7, Vanquish, and the Nissan R390!
Now that he has launched his own product design company, he has unleashed his first-ever model – with some serious capabilities!
Made for both the road and the rough, the Skye looks like something out of a James Bond movie, but you don’t need to be a secret agent to operate it!
Featuring a fully enclosed cabin, it runs entirely on electricity and is designed to reduce weight (1150 kg) thanks to the steel and carbon chassis.
The windows at the lower door not only look cool but also improve visibility when driving. The glass-heavy exterior is also curved for improved aerodynamics – not your typical off-road looker!
At 4 metres, it’s just an inch more than a Mini Cooper four-door, Callum has designed it to seat up to four in a 2+2 arrangement similar to older 911 sports cars.
The suspension provides 13.7 inches of ground clearance and 21.7 inches of travel. As for the powertrain, it runs on a 42kWh battery with 275 km of range and a 0-to-100 time of under 4 seconds!
In order to make it capable off road, the Skye also features all-wheel drive and wide multi-terrain tyres with high exposure for better approach and departure angles!
The Skye is undergoing prototype testing as we speak, with the aim to release proper production on and off-road versions early in 2024 ready for lucky peeps to order one! Asking price? Only $190,000.
