Retired NRL player turned popular television host, Beau Ryan, spills the beans on the Gladiators television series reboot and more!
Name: Beau Ryan.
Birthdate: 11 May 1985.
Occupation: Television host, retired NRL player.
KRASH: Have you done any training in your journey to becoming a TV host?
I haven’t done any formal training in television presenting, but because of that I try twice as hard to make sure I’m well prepared for each role.
KRASH: How did you score the hosting job on Gladiators?
I was a superfan of the original show when I was a kid and I wasn’t big enough to be a Gladiator, so they asked me to host.
KRASH: What can we expect from the reboot series?
Outstanding Gladiators, jaw-dropping events and action-packed entertainment for the whole family. And, Liz Ellis!
KRASH: Spill the beans, who is your favourite Gladiator and why?
I never have favourites… but Halo and Phoenix!
KRASH: Can you share an interesting fact about the new series?
We may or may not have surprise cameos from original Gladiators, who say it’s the best season yet.
KRASH: How would you describe your co-host Liz Ellis?
In three words – professional, likeable and the reason I would watch the show.
KRASH: How do you prepare before a show?
I rehearse my script, do 100 push ups, and get Liz Ellis to call me Maximus.
KRASH: What is involved in a typical day on set of Gladiators?
Plenty of action, constant entertainment, physical events and the excitement that we get to do it all again tomorrow.
KRASH: What do you love the most about your job?
Being able to have fun and entertain so many people at home in the process.
KRASH: What is the most difficult thing about your job?
Learning how to pronounce the word ‘Gladiatorial’ correctly when I’m tired.
KRASH: How does hosting Gladiators compare to hosting The Amazing Race?
It’s hard to compare because they are so different. But, one advantage of Gladiators is I get to work with a fantastic co-host who I have fun with each day and can share the wonderful experiences with.
KRASH: What was your favourite destination during The Amazing Race and why?
Sapi Island. It’s one of the most majestic places I have been to with the warmest ocean water I have ever been in, plus friendly locals.
KRASH: Do you have any other projects coming up?
Another season of Gladiators, and a new show, Top Gear Australia.
KRASH: How do you enjoy your spare time?
Watching YouTube with my daughter, wrestling with my son and bringing Caramilk ice cream to my wife.
KRASH: What has been your most memorable career moment so far?
The finale when Toni and Heath won The Amazing Race Australia. Seeing the joy in their faces after the adversity they had faced in their lives and knowing the prize money would give them the opportunity to have some wonderful experiences.
KRASH: Tell us something about yourself that not many people know?
Orange is my favourite colour.
