The Fiat That Floats!
Fiat 500s are very common on the streets of Italy’s Amalfi Coast. But seeing them on the water isn’t as common – until now!
Italian boat manufacturer Car Off-Shore and automotive giant Stellantis have developed the Fiat 500 Offshore – an insanely fun boat inspired by the iconic Fiat 500. Also known as the ‘500 of the seas’, this quirky car-boat was given its blessing by Fiat, in a mega exclusive deal!
Created by 24 year old Italian creator Antonio Pietro Maria Galasso, the 4.7 metre long boat combines the car’s advanced technology to create a unique yet safe sailing experience.
The Offshore does away the 500’s roof and the bottom half of its wheel arches, with half-wheels painted into the top of the arches. Since the boat version doesn’t need a boot, the rear bench seat gets replaced with two individual seats pushed to the rear of the car/vessel. Not all is lost though; the road 500’s headlights, taillights, and mirrors are still all there!
Equipped with an atrimaran hull with 3 V-shaped hulls and endless possibilities for colour combos, many materials have been adapted to the marine environment, including the front glass/windshield, the centre console, and the steering wheel which steers the rudder!
The side and rear view mirrors, and front and rear light clusters are identical to those on the road 500, while all seats are comfortable quilted lounges, with up to 5 people allowed onboard.
A single 40 horsepower Mercury outboard motor on the back develops a top speed around 55 km/h. If you want more power though, there are optional outboards making up to 115 horsepower available – which would make the 500 Offshore almost as powerful as the road car!
The vessel has a fuel tank capacity of 70 litres, a displacement of 550 kg, and all the Italian flex of the road vehicle – with added saltwater!
Aiming to show off Italian craftsmanship with slick marine functionality, the Fiat 500 Off-Shore is now available for purchase, with production limited to 500 numbered units – what else!
