Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Switch

The RPG hit Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door from 2004 has scored a remake! The story sees Princess Peach kidnapped, of course. Key to the story is a lost kingdom that sunk beneath the ocean.

If Mario can collect the seven Crystal Stars, he can unlock the Thousand-Year Door and gain access, but should he? A demon called the Shadow Queen lies within and she wants Peach’s body! As an RPG, Mario levels-up with new abilities and items as you progress, as well as forming a party of eventually 7 friends to help him out. Mario always has one party member with him, which you can switch out as required to solve puzzles with their special abilities or for the turn-based combat encounters.

The real standout is how Mario, and the world, is made of paper. It looks stunning and much of the gameplay ties into this idea, with Mario able to fold into a plane, a boat, and so forth. This amazing and inventive gameplay mix, as well as the awesome story, make this gorgeous remake awesome.
