It sure is busy in Smurf Village at the moment, with a host of games coming out alongside movies and a new TV show. This latest game is taking a very interesting approach, merging the party genre with adventure platformer gameplay. It’s like getting the best of both worlds!
Regardless of which experience you’re into, the premise is the same. Papa Smurf wants to host the world’s best party and he not only needs the other Smurfs to help organise it, but to keep Gargamel from spoiling it.
So, in the Adventure Mode, you explore the village and surrounding world in third-person, unravelling a new story. You’ll meet 100 different Smurfs and explore 10 environments, including the Enchanted Forest, Snowy Mountains and Gargamel’s territory. As well as completing various quests, you’ll need to make sure all the Smurfs get their invites so they can attend. The visuals look really nice, too, on par with the recent platformers.
Then in the Party Mode, up to four players can choose between 19 Smurfs characters to take into 50 minigames. As you’d expect, these minigames are inspired by the Smurf universe, while being split across six categories (sport, quickness, luck, memory, battle and accuracy.)
There’s bobsledding down steep slopes, leaping across floating logs on a river, avoiding Gargamel’s thumping fists, cooking, archery, BMX riding, soccer, running races, hang-gliding, snail racing, puzzle making and a lot more. You’ll compete for glory, and new outfits, of course.
That’s a lot of variety in one game and while we’re surprised The Smurfs have bundled these two genres together, we really like it!
