Monster Trucks Are Hot

Two of our favourite things in the world, Monster Trucks and Hot Wheels, have joined forces for an exciting new racing game.

Game: Hot Wheels Monster Trucks: Stunt Mayhem
Genre: Racing
Out: Now
On: PS5, PS4, XSX, XBO, Switch, PC

If you think the coolest part of any Monster Truck experience is the stunts, then this is the racing game for you. It looks to take the fun of playing in your house with your Hot Wheels toys and apply it to the epic arenas of the Monster Trucks tour. It’s not about super realism then, but instead about over-the-top craziness and bringing your imagination to life.

Hot Wheels Monster Trucks: Stunt Mayhem is therefore what we call an arcade racer. It’s easy to pick up and play, and has arenas and stunts that are beyond anything you could do in real life. It also has a broad range of experience, with classics like head-to-head battles and a Career mode filled with challenges to complete, mixed in with boss battles and point-based stunt and destruction trials.

These can all be played solo, or you can get a friend to join in the fun with local multiplayer.

You’ll likely have the most fun just pulling off stunts. There’s a big range of real-life Monster Trucks to choose from – including the likes of Bone Shaker, Tiger Shark, Race Ace, Mega Rex, Scratch Attack and Bigfoot – and when you hit the jumps you can do barrel rolls, flips, spins, wheelies and more. Each truck has a signature move, too, and to get the most points you’ll want to link together stunts into epic combos.

DID YOU KNOW?

This title is developed by GameMill, who was also behind the Nickelodeon Kart Racer series, so they have plenty of experience making fun racing games.

The arenas are not just filled with jumps either. There’s plenty of objects for you to destroy, loop-the-loops, rings of fire, wall climbs, targets, collectables and other such activities filling up each space. You’re kept on your toes as perfect landings are hard to get, but if you don’t get it right you can lose points or spend too much time trying to recover.

The Monster Trucks look very cool, with plenty of attention to detail. The cartoon-like visuals work well to match the arcade gameplay. However, the objectives do get a bit samey, so we hope they release more in the future to increase the variety. A wider range of bosses to add to enemies like Crushzilla would also be great, too.

At least each of the arenas, such as Skelesaurus’ Lair, Island Swamps, Toxic Town, Junkyard Valley, Crush Canyon and Stunt Zone by Night (inspired by the Hot Wheels Monster Truck Live Glow Party tour) have their own unique challenges.

Indeed, if you love your racing games, then you’ll definitely have fun playing Hot Wheels Monster Trucks: Stunt Mayhem. Linking together the stunts while causing so much damage in these big arenas is great solo, but even better when you’re facing-off against a friend. Start your engines!
