Nintendo Switch 2 Revealed

Nintendo has finally revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 console, but only with a taster trailer that doesn’t give us too much information. What we do know is that it does have a bigger screen and will be a larger device overall. While not officially confirmed, the screen would seem to have grown from 6.2” to 8.4” based on our measurements.

We also see that the screen has less bezel around it, a more rounded shape, a glistening effect in its black chassis and a new stand design that allows it to lean back further. It also has two USB-C ports, one on the bottom and one on the top. This will make it easier to charge while in handheld mode, and may also fit some interesting peripherals.

The Joy-Cons looked to have received a lot of attention. They are now black, have a more rounded shape, and they magnetically connect to the screen for easier removal. The right Joy-Con also has a new, mystery button on it that we can see, but wasn’t explained by Nintendo. We wonder what it will do? A peripheral that allows you to click your Joy-Cons onto a cradle to turn them into a more traditional controller layout has also been revealed.

Nintendo has confirmed that thankfully almost all digital and physical games from the original Switch will work with the Switch 2, so you’ll be able to take your entire library across with you. Only one game was shown, which was a new Mario Kart. Yes, a new Mario Kart game is coming, likely at launch!

We won’t have to wait long for more details. A dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct showcase will occur on April 3 (Australian time) And shortly thereafter, on April 5, the console will be playable by fans at Experience Events unfolding around the world. No price or release date was announced, but rumours suggesting a June launch would now appear to be correct.
