PROJECT MIDNIGHT

The Darkest WRX Ever – Dark Knight Approved!

Subaru’s rally division recently unleashed its ‘Project Midnight’ erm project, an evil-looking one-off WRX – built to dominate the hill at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed! When Subaru promised to shock the fanboys, many thought it would be an electric drivetrain. But no, it was something darker…

Based on the latest generation WRX STI, Project Midnight is a strictly course-only race car, engineered specifically to be bullet-quick on the track. As such, it possesses immense power, minimal weight, and hectic handling!

Powering this monster is a custom 2.0 litre boxer engine fitted with a turbocharger, both heavily worked to squeeze out a whopping 670 horsepower and 680 ft-lbs of torque! Spinning at a 9,500 rpm redline, it will rev as high as the Ferrari 12Cilindri’s V12! Did we mention it also shoots flames out of a custom exhaust pipe that exits through the bonnet – sick!

18 inch magnesium OZ Superturismo wheels are wrapped in some extremely sticky Yokohama racing slicks – and you know a car doesn’t play when you can see most of the tyres’ surface standing straight behind it. The tarmac-tested suspension keeps it nice and controlled, while the carbon fibre bodywork shaves 450 kg off the standard WRX!

Sporting a gloss black body covered in matte black logos and graphics, Project Midnight’s widebody kit boasts a massive front splitter, a vented hood with cutouts for its turbocharger and exhaust, an enormous rear diffuser, and a ridiculously-sized rear wing – influenced by the batmobile!

The interior got gutted before being amped back up by a full race spec roll cage and race seat. The mods allow it to tip the scales at under 1130 kg, while the work that went into it make it the quickest factory-built WRX to date!

Although it will face competition from Alpine’s Pikes Peak A110 and BMW’s M Hybrid V8 Le Mans racer, it will easily be up for the fastest run up the hill, especially if driver Scott Speed can harness his peak skills!

Subaru Motorsports USA and the Vermont SportsCar team have delivered an absolute weapon here. Half RX, half sports car, it’s the ultimate driving machine, and it’s also not for sale – but you probably already guessed that!
